Back Stage

On February 11, 2004, 38 year old cast member Javier Cruz died when he was accidently run over by the Beauty and the Beast parade float in a backstage area. Cruz was dressed as Pluto. This led OSHA to fine Disney $6,300 for having employees in restricted areas.

Splash Mountain

On November 5, 2000, 37 year old William Pollack from St. Petersburg, Florida was critically injured while trying to exit the ride vehicle while it was moving through the ride. He was heading towards an emergency exit when he was struck by the following ride vehicle. He died after he was taken to a local hospital.

Space Mountain

The largest settlement following an attraction accident was granted to a 28-year old former employee. In 1980, Denise Guerrero was working the Space Mountain loading dock, checking safety bars. In pushing one bar down, she became entangled as the ride left the loading dock. She was dragged 25 feet and received severe bruises, cuts, a broken pelvis and ankle, in addition to injuring her back. Disneyland agreed to pay out $154,000 in cash plus $240,000 in a tax-free annuity program for the rest of her life.
