In my role as consultant to James Jefferson Furniture Company, retained by President and CEO James Jefferson IV, I have prepared a portrait of the organization, its industry, and its market.

For over a hundred years, since the time when the original James Jefferson was young (see photo on right), the James Jefferson Furniture Company has made and sold a brand of solid, affordable furniture meant to be lived in. The company is still family-centered. They are proud of what they do. They are proud of how they do it. They are proud of how they got here.

This web report tries to provide an objective, third-party snapshot of the company's strategy, its operations, its supply chain, its financial performance, its people, and its growing commitment to technology.

It is the technology area that brought me to James Jefferson Furniture Company. The family is concerned about the potential effects of the Internet and ebusiness on its future. I have been asked to lead two months of workshops and demonstrations for the company's executives. At the end of that time, they will meet to produce an action plan that the Chief Strategy Officer can present to President and CEO James Jefferson IV.

This measured, prudent approach to proactively meet the challenges of ebusiness is a testament to the vision and leadership of Mr. Jefferson.
